which is how we got here in
the first place: walking
or something like walking,
floating along over hill and dale
following a path that must have been
left behind from an earlier age
breathing such fresh air our lungs
sang out songs like a hundred flags
flapping as we walked down through
time pulling an apple here
an orange there, O wondrous
sun gorging a watermelon to
bursting, causing the bees’ wings
to warm to the apricot blossom,
the currents of the ocean to swirl,
the molecules in the caressing
breeze to gather our eyes upwards
to what surely was our first god:
the crazy bright reality
of the sun

I asked Andrea where this photo was captured and if it was sunrise?

“It was October 30th, 2013 somewhere along Highway 101, heading north from L.A. to San Francisco. It was sunset, but one of the reasons I liked this for the poem is that it kind of looks like sunrise to me.”

*I had sent her the poem to find a photo to accompany

I feel you walking thru the poem into revelation. A real awakening. love it. SK

Really great — both the poem and the photo!

Another great poem… you’re on a roll, Mark. And I always love the photos (Andrea’s too). Really liked the line drawing and the black and white composition book “graphic” behind it. Thanks for sharing your creative path.

Wonderful poem. I was checking the email while doing our radio show on KURU (gmcr.org) in Silver City, NM and was inspired by the poem and the morning sun coming up in the window of the studio, across from our wonderful Co-op, and I decided to read it on the air, just after we played some live music on the air. If you are interested in our show, you can pick it up on the web at gmcr.org. The show is Roots and Branches and it’s from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM Mountain Time on Saturday mornings. We don’t have podcasts as we don’t have enough money to pay the extra to do them. We are inspired by Mark’s great Jazz shows on KUNM, Thursdays, at noon in Albuqueruque, NM.

Hey Mark – I really dig your poem – and your line drawing seems to reflect your poetry. All the photos are deep. I’m particularly fond of “Apricot”!
