EL DIA DEL MUERTO

In New Mexico we remember
those who have left us here
sometimes alone, lonely, in this
Vale of Tears, bearing marigolds
that you would come back at least
this one day, please, we miss you
we wish you had not left
we are adrift
in the yellow cottonwoods
how the sad winter coming
envelops us with you gone
we walk among you in all our deaths
everything like the autumn leaves
all of us each one are autumn leaves
